Job description

  • Exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant student residential community
  • Deliver an enriching personal and academic experience for students
  • Home to the prestigious Hansen Scholarship Program

The University of Melbourne seeks an academic leader to develop and maintain an outstanding academic and social environment at Little Hall, a modern and contemporary residential hall at the University of Melbourne.  Leading the delivery of an enriching experience for students, both personally and academically, the Head will ensure that the Hall’s program of support reflects the unique identity of the residency and the diverse student body it supports.

Reporting to the Director of University Colleges and Residential Life, and with three direct reports, the Head, Little Hall will work collaboratively across the University Colleges and Residential Life portfolio to coordinate and optimise the support, programs and services provided to students.  This includes the development and delivery of residential programs focussing on academic support and community building, including pastoral care, safety and wellbeing.  Working closely with the Director of the Hansen Scholarship Program, the Head will also ensure that the specific needs of the resident Hansen Scholars are met.  With a future focus, the Head, Little Hall will also develop, implement, evaluate and report on the strategic direction and initiatives of the Hall, leading and celebrating its promotion within the University, alumni and the wider community.

With proven scholarly, leadership and management experience obtained at an educational institution, you will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification, ideally at doctoral level.  A track record in leading and mentoring students in an academic environment will be essential, and your strengths in communication, influencing and negotiation will be required to engage with a broad stakeholder group, including the student cohort, external partners, senior university executives and donors.  With a demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic and operational plans, you will be enthusiastic in leading and inspiring a high performing team to develop and promote Little Hall, while preserving its unique identity and offering.
