What does the role involve

We have an exciting opportunity for a Formulations Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Production Manager, this stimulating and varied role supports our business success by executing and optimising product formulations to meet required specifications, ensuring highest quality, safety, hygiene and Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) standards are met. As a growing company, we have an exciting and ever-expanding portfolio of health products, and our production schedule varies from day to day and week to week, so there’s never a dull moment or time to get bored! Based in Mount Waverley, this role will work alongside our long-term and close-knit workforce on the production floor across a four-day compressed work week on day shift.

What we need in the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled team player who has demonstrated technical and practical experience in product formulating within a food/pharmaceutical clean room environment. The ideal candidate is someone who has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, has complex problem-solving skills, can multi-task and is results-oriented. Your experience will include batch mixing, continuous mixing, WIP preparation for filling department and you will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills (as you will need to understand recipes and translate these into working recipes for our production environment). A strong grasp of different measurements, conversions, chemical reactions, compounding, emulsification and thermal reactions is an absolute must, as well as having a proven track record in leading safety and continuous improvement initiatives as they relate to manufacturing. 

With a natural interest in science and product formulation, ideally you will also have qualifications in Food/Biological/Chemical/Production related Sciences and thrive in an environment where precision and accuracy are critical and you can allow your detail oriented nature to shine. The team

As a senior and integral part of the Production Team, you will be working alongside our experienced machine, production and packing operators, a Clean Room Supervisor and a Formulation Assistant. Your role will also see you (and require you) to consistently interact with our Quality and Science/R&D Teams to ensure the highest standards of quality are observed as well as coordinating, trialling and supervising new product requests, allowing you to build relationships across the business and regularly work on new and interesting projects!

What responsibilities form part of this role?

The key responsibilities include:

  • Managing product recipe formulation processes to ensure the efficient production of highest quality products.
  • Executing product formulation deployment and optimisation in manufacturing operations to ensure product quality and productivity targets are achieved.
  • Establishing and approving the technical requirements for production documentation including manufacturing formulas, filling and bottling work orders, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Environmental Procedures, PMs, etc.
  • Ensuring product standards, including recipe compliance and food quality are implemented in accordance with quality requirements and implement improvements to Quality Systems.
  • Ensuring workplace and work activities comply with Company Health and Safety policies, standards and legislation and leads by example as a role model of WHS principles.
  • Implementing and managing new and improved business processes to contribute to the continuous improvement of the company.

Specific skills/qualifications needed

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Understanding of compounding and emulsions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GMP principles and OH&S requirements
  • Solid understanding of quality management systems; deviations and events, investigations and change control
  • Proven track record with leading safety and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Possesses high attention to detail
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships right across the business
  • Secondary Qualification in Food/Biological/Chemical Sciences or Production related science is preferred
  • Technical and operational knowledge of aseptic processing operations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure, able to multi-task and is results-oriented
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, and
  • The ability to evaluate and resolve complex technical problems.
