Job description

  • Key role in assessing fraud and scams risk of new Bank initiatives and products
  • Hybrid Working Model- Sydney Office and WFH
  • Permanent opportunity 

Within our Financial Crime and Fraud Prevention Team, your role will be key in assessing the fraud and scams risk of new Bank initiatives and products, ensuring that sufficient controls are captured in the business requirements, to effectively mitigate the risk of fraudulent transactions. Our Fraud Risk Manager will be the designated fraud point of contact, responsible for a portfolio across the Westpac Group covering all Product and Distribution channels, but primarily across Consumer and Business divisions.

You will perform analysis of fraud and scam incidents to all areas of Westpac Group, enabling efficient implementation of risk remediation activities. You will also be responsible for assessing risk in change, identifying incident root causes and making commercially sound recommendations to individual Business Units. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare risk assessments on new product offerings and change initiatives 
  • Advise Product and Project teams on potential fraud and scam risks/impacts
  • Engagement of Fraud Analytics teams to understand fraud detection data requirements
  • Engage and consult relevant areas with the Bank to develop action plans that effectively manage identified Fraud and Scams risk and ensure these are captured in business requirements
  • Identify impacts arising from broader business change initiatives
  • Coordinate necessary responses and consultation back to the business. Facilitate development of SLA’s where required and ensure that these are reflected in metrics/reporting
  • Prepare recommendations for sign off on behalf of Fraud risk
  • Extract and provide analytical comment and develop fraud scenarios relevant to Westpac’s products and processes, as agreed with business units, to assist in the review of product controls
  • Receive incident notifications and lead the process and control review to isolate causes of loss, identify vulnerabilities and recommend feasible solutions to remediate identified weakness.
  • Perform incident analysis, maintain tracking of all active control requirements and ensure these are translated to practical action by business units

What do I need?

  • Demonstrated industry knowledge in terms of risk management techniques and processes in a relevant industry
  • Strong understanding of fraud and scams management within the banking sector
  • Experience in business consulting with high level business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver research reports including development of new/leading methodology.
  • Demonstrated capability to operate at a strategic level, with strong analytical skills 
  • Experience in writing or reviewing of business requirement documents
  • Knowledge of Banking and Finance
  • Understanding of Operational Risk Frameworks
  • Degree qualified in Law, Accounting, Commerce or Economics or equivalent
