Our History
The Discipline of Dentistry at James Cook University was established in 2008 in response to the challenges presented by the oral health needs of northern Australia, and its foundation is part of the College of Medicines and Dentistry's strong commitment to the provision of professional health education in the area. Ours is one of only three dental schools in Australia located outside a capital city.
The position
The receptionist will report to the Senior Receptionist.
Key duties:
- Check-in and out of patients
- Manage a busy phone
- Schedule appointments
- Liaise with dentistry students, dental staff and other health professionals and health organisations.
- Attend to correspondence
- Operative eftpos machine
- Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the team to meet organisational objectives.
- Demonstrate appropriate and professional workplace behaviours, provide assistance to other team members and required and undertake other responsibilities as need.
- Comply with workplace health and safety policies
Experience and aptitude:
- Experience in reception in the dental field or other high volume industry
- Sound working knowledge of MS Office programs including internet and email applications
- Demonstrated high level customer service with good interpersonal communications skills including empathy for others who are dealing with high stress situations
- Well-developed oral and written communications skills and time management skills
- High level organisational skills that enable deadlines to be met and demonstrated ability to prioritise.
- Enjoy working in a team environment
- Excellent numeracy, literacy and data entry skills
