Gardener/Maintenance Officer
- Fixed Term Full Time (until 11 April 2025)
- Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
- $70,440 per annum (LGIA Stream B Level 4 + Site Allowance) + Superannuation
- Location – Rockhampton
Your new role
Are you looking for an opportunity where you can contribute to the conservation of our airport whilst continually improving the gardens, carparks, open spaces and associated facilities at the ‘Gate Way’ of our region?
On a day to day basis you will undertake horticultural tasks in the planning, development and landside/ airside garden maintenance at the airport. Tasks will include planting, pruning, mowing, irrigation maintenance, pest and disease management, weed control and other minor maintenance duties and repairs.
It is an ongoing condition of employment for this position to meet the necessary requirements to qualify for an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) which includes Australian Citizenship and Police Background Checks (arranged by Council). Applicants must also satisfy the requirements of the Rockhampton Airport Drug and Alcohol Management Plan.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
- Knowledge and experience in horticulture and open space maintenance in a large public park or garden environment.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain small machinery including but not limited to tractors, mowers, brush cutters, chain saws, blowers and other plant.
- A motivated self-starter with knowledge and understanding of maintenance activities required within a commercial building or airport.
- Someone who enjoys and is capable of physical and outdoor work.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to carry out your duties in a safe manner whilst ensuring the safety of your team members and public.
