We are currently supporting our client within the gaming/gambling space, as they look to up skill in their legal & compliance area of the business.
They are looking for a General Counsel & Company Secretary whose key focus is to act as the chief legal and compliance advisor and trusted strategist for the business, representing those Interests to the Executive Committee and building strong, influential relationships with key external stakeholders. The team is circa 80 people through 10 direct reports.
About the role
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives and ensure legal and regulatory compliance
- Managing key external stakeholder relationships
- Advising the Board and Executive Committee on legal matters including corporate governance, regulatory compliance (particularly in the areas of AML/CTF), risk management and dispute and litigation
- Overseeing and improving effectiveness of corporate governance frameworks, Including chairing relevant committees
- Advising the business on potential changes in laws and community expectations relevant to the company's operations and oversee the implementation of required changes
- Managing key strategic projects for the business including M&A transactions and regulatory strategy
- Championing ongoing uplift of governance, risk and compliance systems
- Managing the legal & compliance budget and expenditure, including management of external legal firms
- Leading a large number of compliance professionals that act as trusted advisors to the business
About You
To be successful in this role you will ideally be a generalist lawyer from within private practice & in-house, with experience across areas such as contracting, corporate governance, corporate transactions / M&A, disputes and litigation, Intellectual property, technology, competition, risk, compliance and regulation.
You will need to be well-versed and confident in presenting and reporting regularly to the company’s board. Ideally you will thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment, and enjoy working collaboratively with a passionate and supportive team. You are comfortable in a well-regulated environment and understand the business challenges to drive change and efficiencies in this context.
