Job Description
YOUR ROLE
The General Manager, Risk and Assurance will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organisations overall risk management. Through strategic and tactical initiatives, the General Manager will guide, influence, and advise the executive and board on risk taking behaviours, the management of risk, and potential outcomes of risk-based decisions. The General Manager will be leading the enterprise risk function during a time of significant business transformation, and their remit includes defining how key executive members and a large operational workforce view risk as an opportunity as well as a threat, developing an appropriate risk culture, encouraging collective awareness and responsibility of risk, achieving an appropriate level of risk management maturity that reflects MAC’s risk profile. Further to the responsibilities outlined, the General Manager will emphasise that risk is about continuous learning and embracing opportunities and will feel comfortable communicating new messaging and new ways of working at a board, committee and executive level and across MACS schools. The General Manager will operate with a high level of autonomy in a very complex and dynamic setting. The role is accountable for the outcome of decisions and actions taken, and exercises judgement and significant problem-solving skills to achieve outcomes that may have wide-reaching and significant impact to MACS. The position requires extensive engagement and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that appropriate practices are understood and embedded across a diverse and complex environment.

ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have relevant postgraduate qualifications in risk management, business or law with extensive experience and proven success in a senior leadership role within a large, complex organisation (Education Sector experience is highly regarded) or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training in risk management and Assurance and audit or related area.
- Extensive experience leading and managing a team, with the demonstrated ability to communicate key objectives, support staff to achieve organisational goals, focus on high-performing service delivery and continuous improvement in a large and complex environment.
- Highly effective stakeholder management skills with significant experience in proactively engaging, building and maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all levels of an organisation, including at Board Committee level, influencing and negotiating outcomes persuasively. Demonstrated experience and commitment to operating as part of a high performing and collaborative leadership team.
- Significant experience operating in an environment with diverse and complex regulatory compliance obligations involving multiple stakeholders.
- Expertise in applying the principles of organisational risk, insurance and compliance management including ISO 31000
- Demonstrated ability to model values, drive cultural change and create a cohesive, high performing team aligned with the values of MACS, by acting in the best interest of MACS; displaying Service Excellence by striving to deliver beyond expectations and taking ownership of the delivery; and value working collaboratively as One Team, connecting with people and building relationships in your workplace
- Ability to constructively manage multiple diverse and complex stakeholder relationships and competing priorities without losing momentum
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to present information clearly and concisely and negotiate on behalf of MACS
- Demonstrated ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, understand the bigger picture and think strategically
- Demonstrated commercial judgement with significant expertise in applying organisational knowledge and understanding to make sound decisions that achieve the goals and outcomes of the organisation
- Demonstrated ability to apply data analytics and the outputs to a complex environment
