The Team
The Parliamentary, Governance and Assurance Section brings together three key functions that support the agency to deliver service to the portfolio ministers and Parliament, govern with structure and integrity; and have confidence that business activities achieve objectives.
The Governance team deliver high quality governance and secretariat services to support the AEC achieve effective and efficient decision making. The Governance Officer plays a vital team role to ensure the smooth operation of the secretariat function for key corporate committees, subcommittee’s and working groups.
The Opportunities
The AEC is seeking a collaborative, self-motivated and results driven Governance Officers to join the Governance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to explore your potential or gain further skills in supporting critical committees deliver results.
The Governance Officers provide secretariat services to key committees in the AEC’s governance framework including, dissemination of advice, coordination of papers and action item monitoring. You will develop reports and briefing papers on administrative issues for presentation to the committees that form the AEC’s governance framework. Maintaining the intranet, SharePoint and Microsoft team channels to support the AEC in effective governance operations for each committee.
You will be responsible for monitoring, actioning, and assigning items and tasks from group email inboxes, as per business rules. Providing accurate specialist advice, guidance, and reporting on team functional responsibilities. You may be required to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members at lower classifications, building team capacity, and encouraging career development.
To excel you’ll have:
- Excellent organisational skills and a demonstrated ability to undertake tasks methodically and accurately.
- Experience in analysing moderately complex information as well as providing timely and accurate advice and support.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a team, with other business areas and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- A strong commitment to working harmoniously within a geographically disbursed team to achieve positive results and support the AEC’s strategic direction.
- Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.
Desirable
- Strong skills in Word and Adobe Pro.
- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law, Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and related frameworks.
