We are starting on the largest energy transformation in a generation so there has never been a better time to join the energy industry! We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Government Relations Manager at Perth Head Office, on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

About this role

As the Government Relations Manager, you will be accountable for managing Western Power’s relationship with the Minister for Energy, Government, Parliament and key government agencies. As a key partner, you’ll ensure Western Power maintains a responsive and trusted relationship between our Government stakeholders and is effective in influencing decisions that help us achieve our vision.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a high-performing team of Government Relations practitioners by setting direction, prioritising work and developing capability within the team.
  • Facilitate and guide Western Power’s ability to advance policy, legislation and positions with government stakeholders by supporting the Executive and Senior Management teams for engagements with the Minister, Government, Parliament, their staff, and key agencies.
  • Manage key issues which effect or are of interest to the Minister for Energy, Government and Parliament, or that could otherwise negatively impact Western Power’s reputation with Government.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to manage and support a framework for engagement with the Minister for Energy, Members of Parliament, and a range of government agencies.
  • Provide timely and strategic advice on political, policy and legislative matters, both internally and externally, in conjunction with the Strategy team.

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Significant experience in managing Government and/or external stakeholder relations in a large, multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Local, WA and Federal Governments, political systems, and landscape, and track record of building positive relationships with Government, Parliament, and key agencies.
  • Prior leadership experience, having developed and led high performing teams and team members.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to interpret complex legislation, complex problem-solving, and analysis of our operating environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Business, Commerce, Media, Journalism, Communications, Management, Political Science or other relevant discipline.
  • Understanding of energy policy, sector trends and operating challenges.
