Westernport Water's core functions are to provide drinking water, recycled water and wastewater services to properties and communities throughout our district.

We are one of 18 water corporations operating and reporting to the State Government of Victoria.

We are responsible for servicing 21,916 customers from 27 townships across an area covering 300 square kilometres, encompassing Millowl (Phillip Island) and mainland communities from The Gurdies to Archies Creek.

The region has one of the highest ratios of visitors to residents of any destination in Australia. During peak periods, there can be approximately 120 visitors to every resident.

About the role

Graduate Engineer- Full Time, Fixed Term (2 years)

The Graduate Engineer will support, contribute, and assist with all facets and provisions of engineering services across the Assets & Operations Division. The Graduate Engineer is responsible for undertaking projects and tasks as directed to contribute to the achievement of group KPI's and strategies to meet customer, community, and regulatory requirements. The Graduate Engineer will participate in a rotation programme providing technical and engineering knowledge.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Participate in and assist the Asset Planning Team with the delivery and prioritisation of its Capital Works by applying sound engineering methodology to help develop solutions, documentation of project work and contributing to project record keeping. This will involve a combination of office and field work, planning and ensuring the effective and timely evaluation, investigations, designs and developing technical documentation.
  • Prepare briefs for the provision of consulting services on identified specialist/major projects, assess proposals from consultants and manage consultants providing design services.
  • Participate and assist in the development and implementation of an Asset Management System across Westernport Water in accordance with the Department of Treasury and Finance Asset Management Accountability Framework and the principles of ISO 55000 suite of standards.
  • Support Strategic Asset Management to achieve the most economical whole of life cycle, by assisting with the development of policies, strategies, frameworks, plans and procedures across the business.
  • Assist with maintaining the integrity, accuracy and completeness of asset data contained within the Asset Management Information System (AMIS), Works Management System (WMS), Geographical Information System (GIS), SCADA and hydraulic modelling system.
  • Support Dam Safety by engaging with asset owners and operators to understand compliance requirements, strategic planning, risk assessments and works programmes.
  • Provide appropriate, adequate, and timely information and reporting as requested.
  • Learn and participate in developing corporate citizenship, by utilising Westernport Water's enterprise systems, participate in corporate and individual training opportunities and engage with workplace communications and information.
  • Uphold a "safety first culture", and adherence to the Westernport Water's Workplace Health and Safety, Environmental Management and Asset Management Systems.
  • Other duties as directed within the skills and abilities of a position at this level.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Mechanical preferred) .
  • Minimal experience in a professional engineering environment desired.
  • Understanding of the water industry desired.

It is a requirement of your application to specifically address the following Key Selection Criteria:

  • A Degree in Bachelor of Engineering Discipline (Civil or Mechanical preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Sound communication skills both written and verbal along with good interpersonal skills and developed computer skills.
  • Ability to be self-managed and work autonomously and effectively manage your own time and the time of others, set priorities and achieve objectives and goals within required timeframes.
  • Understanding of the water industry highly desired.
