About the position
Council's Development Services Department is looking for a Graduate Environmental Health Officer who will be responsible for protecting the health of the community through the monitoring and enforcement of legislative requirements in accordance with the Food Act 1984, Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017 and Tobacco Act 1987.
The main responsibilities will include:
- Conduct inspections, assess plans and facilitate the registration of premises, and undertake routine surveillance of registered premises to ensure compliance with under the provisions of the Food Act 1984 and Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008;
- Manage the investigation of infectious disease outbreaks as directed by the Department of Health;
- Conduct education and enforcement activities, and investigations in line with the requirements of the Tobacco Act 1987 and Environment Protection Act 2017; and
- Provide professional, timely and accurate advice in relation to all matters under the responsibility of Environmental Health and maintain a high-quality service in the delivery of Council's Environmental Health activities.
As the successful candidate, you will have:
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare reports, briefs of evidence statutory notices and documents;
- A good working knowledge of all legislation including Food Act 1984, Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017 and Tobacco Act 1987 and associated regulations relating to Environmental Health;
- Relevant Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or equivalent; and
- Ability to work autonomously and draw upon previous experience and knowledge to effectively manage their work on a day-to-day basis.
