What is this role about?
The Group Corporate Counsel will provide timely legal counsel and responsibility for a range of strategic corporate and commercial matters and safeguarding Cuscal’s reputation by ensuring Cuscal stays ahead of potential legal risks and enabling the Leadership Team to make informed strategic choices within an acceptable legal risk profile.
Here’s some more insight into what you’ll work on,
- Provide expert legal advice across a broad range of areas.
- Advise Cuscal on its legal rights and obligations and identify solutions to eliminate or mitigate legal and regulatory risk.
- Advise on or set internal policies where applicable.
- Ensure that the General Counsel and Legal Team are informed of new or proposed legislation or regulatory activity that may affect Cuscal’s operations and have oversight as necessary to ensure regulatory changes are fully embedded in the business.
- Liaise with regulators, government officials, department or tribunals on matters affecting Cuscal where required in conjunction with the Risk function.
- Negotiate, draft and settle all major client contracts, vendor contracts, and other commercial arrangements to safeguard Cuscal’s interest.
Although not required, any experience in the following would be highly desirable:
- Experience in any payment switch
- Experience using team collaboration tools including JIRA and Confluence.
- Experience in cloud application delivery platforms such as AWS.
- Experience in project delivery using Agile methodology.

What can you bring?
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a corporate or commercial lawyer.
- Understanding of the financial services legislative and regulatory environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of financial services and payments markets and competitor offerings.
- Top tier private practice experience.
- In-house legal experience.
- ADI or prudential experience.
- Deep interest in financial services and payments and ideally exposure to technology.
