About the Team
The Group Finance team work towards the common goal of delivering accurate, timely and complete Group statutory results and partnering with the broader business as required for BAU and ad hoc items such as M&A and project work
Team members share common tasks and work collaboratively, as well as owning unique tasks depending on their role and experience. The wider finance team includes Life Financial Control, Funds Management Financial Control, Business Performance, Tax, Treasury, Actuarial, Risk & Compliance, with teams operating in a highly interactive and collaborative manner.
What you'll do
As a Group Senior Accountant reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you'll provide hands on financial control and accounting support to the Group Financial Control team as well as heavy involvement in the Challenger Group ASX external reporting processes and monthly management reporting of the consolidated group.
You'll continually drive process improvements and automation initiatives across both the Group, Treasury, and Artega reporting and financial control areas. As a senior member of the wider finance team, you'll share knowledge and lead by example with impeccable attention to detail, high quality of work and value add activities.
There will also be the opportunity to be part of ad hoc projects including strategic transactions, new system implementation, new accounting standards implementation.
You'll have a number of key responsibilities which will include (but aren't limited to):
- Ownership of the day-to-day accounting of Challenger Group Services Pty Limited, which is the main operating entity and service company for the Group.
- Monthly reporting of results and analytical review
- Heavy involvement in improving automation of reporting via Workiva
- Tax effect accounting and tax return completion
- Consolidation & cashflow reporting (preparation and review of consolidation journals, review of sub consolidations from other BU's, performing key checks etc.)
- Preparation of audit files and liaising with auditors on audit queries
- Board papers preparation, including workpapers for audit and risk committees; as well as preparation of accounting memos on new standards or areas of reporting.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key business stakeholders and wider finance colleagues.
- Ongoing review of procedures and processes to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, facilitate process changes and ensure appropriate controls are enforced to manage risks.
The skills you'll need.
You'll be CA / CPA (or equivalent) qualified, with at least 3 years post qualification experience within a group finance or financial control environment. With a meticulous level of attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you'll be able to break down problems, identify key issues and remedy with a range of different options. You'll also have the ability to influence key stakeholders up and down the corporate structure and across teams, as you work with them.
A strong user of MS Office in particular MS Excel, you'll be comfortable working with large amounts of data and synthesise into meaningful insights and analysis. You'll use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to help communicate complex data in a concise and clear manner to both finance and none finance stakeholders.
You'll also have
- Working understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Experience of identifying, assessing, and evaluating key financial controls in a finance function
- A working knowledge of the corporate regulatory environment, governance principles, corporate accountability and conduct frameworks and the process for managing risk in a large and complex business - ideally withing financial services but not essential
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment; you'll be as comfortable working collaboratively as you are when working independently.
- A proactive learning approach - you are someone who wants to constantly refine and develop yourself taking every opportunity to learn and grow.
Experience with Workday and Workiva is highly regarded but not essential.
