Ball Australia is a wholesale plant nursery operating in Skye, in the outer South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The nursery produces starter plants and seedlings which are then shipped Australia wide.
We are looking for a hands-on Grower Nursery Hand who is looking for an exciting full-time career at Ball Australia. The successful applicant will be working closely with an experienced team member and will be required to follow the growing processes to produce optimum product for our customers.
We would consider applicants who have some growing knowledge, as well as those who have no experience in growing but have worked in a similar process driven environment. Formal qualifications are not a prerequisite for the role.
Reporting to the Head Grower, the role encompasses the day to day growing activities, working as part of the growing team. We have a very large range of products which in turn creates a complex growing environment.
The hours of the role may vary with the needs of the product and the ability to work the weekend watering roster is a necessity. Penalty rates and overtime are paid in addition to the base salary, as per the Nursery Award.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Checking weight of product and watering accordingly.
- Monitoring quality of product and alerting supervisor to any queries.
- Crop movement between growing areas and sorting.
- Keeping your growing area weed free and clean.
- Be part of the weekend/out of hours watering/spraying roster.
Skills and experience
- Previous plug production nursery experience would be beneficial.
- Qualifications in horticulture, or similar would be highly regarded, but not a necessity.
- Sound analytical skills and a positive attitude.
- Someone who is highly self-motivated and works well in a team environment as well as individually.
- Previous experience in process driven environment would be viewed favourably.
- Attention to detail and a high level of initiative.
- A love of plants and a desire to join a market leader in the horticulture industry.
