Key Accountabilities:
- Manage the flow of dogs through the assessment and training programs in collaboration with the Puppy Development Manager and the Canine Facilities Manager.
- Provide reports as required to the Dog Services and Operations Manager, including Guide Dog program performance against agreed KPI’s.
- Serve as member of the Guide Dog Centre Leadership Group and Guide Dogs People Leader Team.
- Conduct performance appraisals and develop work plans with direct reports.
- Support the professional development of Guide Dog Centre staff.
- Manage the Guide Dog Training budget.
- Ensure compliance with all standards and reporting requirements including those of the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.
- Liaise with the Veterinary and Breeding Services Manager and make recommendations for dogs being considered for acceptance into the Breeding program.
- Liaise with Canine Facilities Manager and/or Team Leader to ensure appropriate handling and care of dogs in kennels who are in assessment and training programs.
- Provide direct support to events and liaise with other departments as required to provide resources for and support organisational fundraising, marketing and education activities.
- Be responsible for the Guide Dog Trainer (and Dog Training portion of Guide Dog Mobility Instructor) trainee education program of both coursework and practical competencies. Ensure trainees meet IGDF standards at qualification in accordance with the Education Standard.
Essential Experience:
- Experience and knowledge in up to date Dog Training methodology. Preferably, a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the principles, legislative requirements and management practices within the Animal Management field.
- Experience in a management role, with demonstrated ability to effectively manage, motivate, and lead staff, and effectively manage change.
- Physical Demands: Working outdoors, Extensive walking, Ability to physically handle dogs.
Desirable Skills:
- Qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor in accordance with IGDF Standards.
- Qualified Orientation and Mobility Instructor
