Job Overview
Under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor/Portfolio Facilities Manager, as the hotels Handy Person you will be required to carry out repairs and maintenance work within the hotel in a timely and professional manner. You will support the hotel team to adhere to IHG brand standards and local government regulations concerning hotel emergency procedures, safety, and any other regulatory requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
PEOPLE
- Develop and maintain cohesive working relationships within immediate team, and wider hotel team.
- As required attend and participate in daily briefings, meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Help with coordination and organization of external trades.
- Participate in instructing team members in compliance with brand safety standards, proper operation of equipment, cleaning of equipment, safety procedures and Government obligations.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through regular and daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Communicates to his/her supervisor any difficulties with service, guest comments and other relevant information; follow complaint handling procedures for prompt resolution of challenges.
- Assist fellow team members in other departments as required.
GUEST EXPERIENCE
- Provide positive guest interactions.
- Conduct routine inspections of all guest rooms and public spaces - taking immediate actions to correct any deficiencies.
- Ensure all guest maintenance requests are solved in a timely manner.
- Key in completing the preventative maintenance management (PMM) schedule.
- General Handy Person duties including but not limited to patching, painting of walls, changing light bulbs, fixing doors, basic bathroom maintenance, FF&E repair.
- Carry a 2-way radio to respond to any complaint calls throughout the day.
- Attend work with a professional level of grooming and presentation; wearing uniform items as issued and in a clean condition with suitable footwear.
FINANCIAL RETURNS
- Request items to be purchased within the departmental budget, to ensure adequate stock levels are kept.
- Ensuring internal audit compliance is understood and executed.
RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS
- Ensure the hotel is compliant with all relevant IHG Brand Safety Standards.
- Maintain clean and tidy plant rooms.
- Assist with the implementation of the hotel’s preventative maintenance system and repair log system.
- Inform superior of the status of repairs and pending costs and indicate when it would be reasonable to consider replacement.
- Record daily service work, including maintaining individual replacement costs along with time/task labor hours cost.
- Carry out and document regular inspections of plant and equipment in computerized system.
- Assist in ensuring that appropriate files are maintained, and resources kept for future reference.
- Complete daily reports outlining work undertaken for the day.
- Explore and incorporate environmentally friendly initiatives.
- Efficient and effective use of recycling methods.
- Adhere to procedures and guidelines relating to specific occupational health and safety issues within the Hotel.
- Demonstrate commitment to guest security and privacy with interactions that involve guest rooms and handling of guest property.
- Champion the identification and reporting of hazards, evaluation or risks, and design and implementation of hazard and control measures.
- Ensure all relevant storage areas and are kept neat and tidy.
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required Skills
- Relevant Trade Skills
- Professional and personable, with a “role up the sleeves”, can do attitude.
- Able to work as part of a vibrant team.
- Great communication skills to be able to liaise with all hotel departments and guests.

- Solid understanding of Safe Work practices and OH&S.

- You must meet the appropriate legal requirements to work in Australia.
Qualifications
- Vocational certificate or equivalent
- Trade qualification preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience in a similar Handy Person role required.
- Hotel maintenance experience beneficial.
