Southern Cross Care QLD has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Head Cook to join our SCCQ family at our Carinya Residential Aged Care home in Miles in the Queensland's Western Downs region.
Located 30 minutes away from Chinchilla, Miles is a vibrant rural township known for its spring flowers, rich pioneer history and wonderful country hospitality.

In this permanent full time role, you will be overseeing the catering operations at the site, assist in the planning and preparation of nutritious and high quality meals for our residents in accordance to the Food Safety Program requirements. Working as part of a talented Hospitality team, you will enhance the dining experience of our residents by sharing your culinary skills and championing our values to meet our mission of supporting people in their choice of health, wellbeing and lifestyle. Your role as a cook will contribute greatly to enhancing the lives of our residents by ensuring appetizing and nutritious meals are provided, promoting a positive and enjoyable dining experience for all.
What are the key responsibilities?
Duties may include but not be limited to:
- Food handling, preparation and cooking of meals
- Cooking and presentation of food and ensuring on time delivery of quality meals
- Basic record keeping (e.g. number of meals per day, missed meals) in consultation with the Chief Cook
- Stock control, ordering (eg food, cleaning products), receiving, checking, weighing and storing
- Ensure kitchen and equipment is maintained in a safe, hygienic and tidy manner
- Certificate 3 in Cookery (desired)
- You will demonstrate compassion, sensitivity and maturity to provide high quality meals
- Attention to detail and ability to follow both verbal and written instructions
- Experience working in commercial kitchen and hotel services roles (desired)
- Must be flexible with start time and days (including weekends).
- Good knowledge of food safety (preferable HACCP).
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to manage your time effectively
