Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Legal will mentor and lead their team to deliver quality legal advice in a timely manner. No two days will be the same, as the team will provide advice on property, industrial relations, employment, acquisitions and divestments, contract and commercial law, as well as ensure compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements that impact the operations.
The key role challenges are:
- To manage and mentor the team to proactively act and think strategically through your leadership and actions that demonstrate a resilient, fair leader who holds the team to account to deliver expected outcomes;
- To teach the team to learn to offer commercially pragmatic advice that explains the options that are legally available and can occur within the boundaries. A collaborative approach that works with stakeholders and advises what they can do to solve an issue and still be compliant is required.
- To be willing to play an instrumental role in the due diligence of potential acquisitions and ensure that all legal areas are in an appropriate and consistent manner considered and assessed before offering recommendations or advice.
- To bring your broad technical legal knowledge and apply it on a daily basis in a manner that sees the legal function be viewed as a value adding business partner.
- To establish and build sound, cohesive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders that are respectful and have a mutual trust and understanding of each other’s point of view.
- To review the existing enterprise-wide approach to risk and enhance the risk register and associated mitigation policies, procedures and strategy resulting in a greater awareness and comprehension of risks that exist across the business.
