About This Newly Created Opportunity
Following a recent operational realignment within the UNSW Planning and Performance (UPP) team, we have created an exciting opportunity with our new Head of Planning and Performance role.
This is a critical strategic role within the UPP Team, and the broader University, and would suit an experienced innovative planning and performance expert, energised by working with a broad demographic of stakeholders to help drive operational planning and coordinate performance activities, including metrics and benchmarking data. Whilst this role is heavily data driven and informed, we are looking for an individual who can also work in a qualitative manner in close collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders across the University.
UPP is a key strategic resource for the senior management of the University providing management information, analysis, and insights that enable decision-making. UPP provides reports on behalf of the University to the Commonwealth Government and other statutory bodies.
The Head, Planning and Performance is responsible for leading planning activities, including the development and management of the University’s operational plan and performance metrics and will also drive strategic projects as required, providing insights that contribute to the strategic positioning of the University. This role reports to the Director, UNSW Planning & Performance and has two direct reports.
What Skills And Experience You Bring To This Role
- Postgraduate qualifications in business management and business analytics with extensive relevant management experience, or proven equivalent competency.
- Extensive relevant experience in a major higher education organisation is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience leading and managing effective teams.
- Advanced skills in sourcing, defining and analysing data.
- Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and build consensus with diverse senior stakeholders, as well as actively listen and understand the interests and needs of diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to write concise and fact-based memos to engage a senior executive audience.
- Extensive knowledge of best practices in operational planning as well as performance processes and systems.
- Proven capacity to provide evidence-based strategic advice, utilising a range of approaches through engagement with stakeholders to reach negotiated agreed outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to effectively solve diverse problems and implement relevant solutions and deliver on deadlines.
- Substantial project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent complex projects and review and re-engineer complex systems and processes.
