Position Information

Taree High School, nestled in the heart of the Manning Valley, is a comprehensive inclusive co-educational high school, has an enrolment of approximately 700 students from Years 7–12, including 23% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The school is part of the Connected Communities Strategy across NSW and provides tailored programs to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal students and their families. Local Gathang Language and Culture is taught to all students in Year 7 through the LOTE Program; Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies and Leadership Programs for Aboriginal students. The school has a tradition of achievement in academic, sporting and artistic pursuits and has a culture, which recognises and celebrates the successes of all of its students. Taree High School’s curriculum and welfare structures are designed to promote self–reliance and encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and their learning. Taree High School is well resourced with a number of specialist facilities including a Support Unit and liaises extensively with its Community of Schools, the business community, Government and Non-Government Agencies, Taree TAFE and strong university partnerships. The school endeavours to provide students with a vast array of opportunities to become global citizens, innovative learners, with strong connections to their school and community.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  • Successful teaching experience and proven ability to support a culture of continuous improvement and high expectations in the teaching of Science courses across all stages.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead a faculty and connect with all key stakeholders to effectively build and strengthen a collaborative learning culture and support high expectations across the school.
  • Ability to oversee school agricultural facilities and operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and educational value for students, while upholding regulations and promoting sustainability standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that support the school’s strategic directions and address whole school priorities. 
General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
