Position Information

Bathurst High Campus is steeped in a rich and proud history, catering for a dynamic and diverse community. Situated in regional NSW, the iconic Bathurst High building built in 1926 sits proudly on the hill in full view of the city below. The prefect blend of old and new buildings, state of the art amenities onsite, along with a fully functional aquaculture centre, helps to make the school a world class facility. The school has 83 teaching staff, 22 non-teaching staff and an enrolment of 1044 students, including 140 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, 6% NESB and 73 support students. Bathurst High Campus forms an innovative college structure with Kelso High Campus as part of Denison College of Secondary Education. Growing student achievement through a high expectations culture is the educational foundation which supports academic growth, vocational education, creative and performing arts programs and sporting success.

The school has a distinctive range of programs that promote creative, cultural and sporting excellence. The band program cultivates student musical talent from their primary school years, through a range of band styles, right up into the award winning 'Swing Factor' collaboration. The Aboriginal cultural programs and designated learning environments nurture every students understanding and expression of culture. Astley and Mulvey Cup interschool sporting and public speaking competitions are high level events that have been important to the Bathurst community for 100 years. Our aquaculture facilities gives students unique learning experiences in an innovative curriculum.

Our staff aim to inspire students, so they aspire to reach their lifelong goals and we do this through a supportive educational environment. Strong links with community groups, combined with a professional partnership with Charles Sturt University, allows ongoing professional growth for both students and teachers.

At Bathurst High, we have undertaken extensive consultation with our staff, students, parents and carers, wider community and the Bathurst Aboriginal Education Consultative Group throughout the past twelve months. Ongoing analysis of our recent external validation, internal and external data, combined with student, staff and community surveys through the consultation process has helped determine our strategic directions for the next four years; Growth and Attainment; High Impact Teaching; Collaboration, Community and Care. These focus areas have been selected to allow a relentless focus on student achievement in literacy and numeracy, in HSC attainment and success, in bridging the gap for Aboriginal student learning outcomes and in ensuring the wellbeing of all our students.

At Bathurst High we endeavour to support teachers professionally through strategically using the current school budget to engage in learning activities which support progress towards our improvement measures. Our campus is committed to improving student performance through a strategic professional learning approach. We aim to build teacher capacity in the use student data to inform teaching and learning, improve student outcomes through explicit teaching techniques and improve classrooms practices to increase student engagement. Regular review of impact will inform the ongoing distribution of school finances.


Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, applicants must satisfy the following specific selection criteria:

  1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in teaching students with disabilities including autism, intellectual disabilities, behaviour disorders, and emotional disturbance.
  2. Demonstrated ability to be a highly visible, approachable and collaborative leader with the capacity to develop inclusive, trusting relationships with the students, families, external agencies and the wider community.
  3. Demonstrated ability to build teacher capacity with the design and implementation of teaching and learning programs that meet the needs of students with a diverse range of additional learning needs.
  4. A demonstrated capacity to work as part of a school executive team to continue a school-wide culture and practice of inclusion, equity and ongoing improvement.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
