Your Opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Consultant in our Health and Safety Team on a permanent full-time basis, located at either our Ipswich or Toowoomba campus however the appointed candidate may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
As a Health and Safety Consultant you will provide advice on matters relating to workplace health safety and risk management through the development and implementation of strategies, systems and processes to ensure regional compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and associated Codes of Practice.
The Health and Safety Consultant reports to the Senior Health and Safety Consultant.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Showing Initiative, Working Together, Safety First, Focusing on our Customers and Taking Responsibility.
- Provide an authoritative advisory service to senior management and staff on a broad range of contemporary workplace health safety and risk management issues across the region.
- Establish and maintain policies and procedures, programs and systems in relation to workplace Health and Safety issues ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
- Coordination of the following:
- Delivery of appropriate workplace Health and Safety induction and training programs for staff across all regional campuses;
- Workplace inspections and audits and develop strategies to ensure compliance with relevant legislative provisions and risk management procedures across all regional campuses; and
- Provision of first-aid services, including training and re-training to staff to ensure the region provides initial first aid response on campus/es as and when required.
- Develop and monitor the effectiveness of Health and Safety procedures across the region, including:
- Monitoring and recording all investigations of injuries, incidents and inspections; and
- Preparation of a monthly report for the Director Assets Facilities and Workplace Health and Safety providing overview, analysis and statistics to support recommendations.
- Actively engage with industry, business and the community including liaising with all regional staff, other Government Agencies, statutory authorities, professional organisations and external service providers in the management of issues affecting health, safety and disability access issues.
- Participate in regional-wide Health and Safety consultative arrangements as the subject matter expert and actively support the whole of TAFE Queensland health, safety and wellness projects as necessary.
- Develop productive partnerships with regional stakeholders to identify and develop risk management approaches to business activities.
- Chair regional operational committee meetings as required and provide recommendations regarding best practice and future movement of Work, Health and Safety matters, including providing options to bring the organisation in alignment with legislation and consistent practice.
How you will be assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and ability to apply the provisions of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and other relevant legislation, codes and standards.
- Develop, promote and implement workplace Health and Safety strategies including incident investigation and reporting; Health and Safety auditing and hazard management; and manage emergent operational issues with solutions to facilitate successful outcomes.
- Demonstrated proven experience in the administration and maintenance of safety systems relevant to a complex and geographically dispersed organisation.
- Coordinate and evaluate workplace Health and Safety training programs and material to meet legislative, client and organisational needs.
- Demonstrated effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to provide discreet and unbiased advice.
Highly Desirable:
- ‘C’ class drivers licence; and
- Certificate IV or higher in Workplace Health and Safety
Salary
The salary range for a Health and Safety Consultant is $99,752 - $108,215 (gross) per annum.
