About the role:

This is a critical role within our EHS team, driving a risk aware safety culture. This role will be focused on supporting our operational leads in all our Queensland manufacturing and warehousing. Most importantly we are looking for someone to lead safety culture in our business with a special focus on uplifting the safety profile. Reporting to the National EHS Manager we are looking for an experienced Health, Safety, and Environment professional, who has previously worked within a manufacturing environment that understands legislation but knows how to execute systems in a fast paced environment along with leading the development and growth of a safety culture.

Based in Brisbane, , this role will also support 4  Queensland sites located nearby. Some travel may be required but this would be the exception rather than the norm.

What you will need to do:

  • Gain an extensive understanding of the RWC Health and Safety System with assistance from the National EHS Manager.
  • Provide practical support and advice, including helping to source technical support, to the Qld site teams. 
  • Ensure timely reporting and escalation of any injury or key Near Miss incident to National EHS Manager
  • Work with site leaders to ensure that EHS accountabilities are communicated and understood by all employees. 
  • Assist in the rollout of RWC Global Critical Safety Standards and the closure of corrective plans in line with the Standard requirements
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of site EHS improvement plans and annual EHS management review plans based on the site hazard register and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assist supervisors to implement a safety management system and its associated procedures, policies & standards.
  • Ensure the management of compliance and other matters, including dealing with external authorities is consistent with company standards.
  • Guide and assist management to identify gaps to compliance.
  • Assist the Qld leaders and sites with development of the site risk analysis program and action plan. 
  • Review and oversee Qld site hazard registers in conjunction with site teams to ensure the content accurately reflects site operations.
  • Lead and assist in the facilitation of HSE projects across the Qld sites.
  • Maintain the training and competence matrix for Qld sites to ensure our employees are up-to-date and compliant with their training needs.
  • Coach employees and safety committees to develop skills to agreed methods e.g. risk analysis SWMS/JSEA, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Coach frontline leaders in understanding and application of safety leadership techniques e.g. safety discussions, safety audits/walk arounds, safety committee input etc.
  • Support the development/implementation of long/short term programs (including corporate initiatives) to:
    • Consult with, involve, and empower employees on safety improvement:
    • Promote positive safety culture through recognition and reward system:
    • Raise profile of safety locally in conjunction with site management teams:
    • Input to development of effectiveness to safety committees.
  • Have expertise in maintaining policies and processes in compliance with relevant legislation within an ISO 45001 framework.
  • Implementation and coordination of new employee induction
  • Conduct regular site audits for compliance with HSE system requirements.
  • Conduct investigations into incidents, near misses and hazard reports.
  • Manage Workcover Statutory claims submissions to the regulator, development of return-to-work procedures, rehabilitation coordination and return to work management.

About you:

  • You are a highly motivated, analytical, organised and outcome orientated professional.
  • You will have 5+ years working in Health, Safety, and Environment roles.
  • Have a high level of computer literacy, particularly excel and PowerPoint
  • You will have led behavioural safety programs and know how to achieve an interdependent safety culture.
  • You are passionate about driving cultural change within large organisations, preferably with DSS+ experience.
  • Have exceptional communication and leadership skills and a consultative approach.
  • Highly proficient in the technical and legal aspects of Health and Safety and Workcover schemes 
  • Prioritising and meeting deadlines will be a cinch for you.
  • You will enjoy analysing problems and finding solutions to complex issues.
