We are looking for a Health and Hygiene Specialist to maintain the site’s compliance with Rio Tinto and Industry Standards as well as to deliver improvements in the health and hygiene outcomes for the workforce.

Reporting to the Business Partner HSE Weipa and working in a collaborative community within the HSE Weipa team, you will be:

  • Developing and implementing Health and Hygiene strategy for site with a focus on exposure reduction and improving operational ownership of Health & Hygiene risks
  • Responsible for delivery of the site’s health and hygiene programmes to comply with Rio Tinto and legislative requirements;
  • Interfacing with leaders on site with respect to return to work requirements and injury classification;
  • Undertake high level data analysis and interpretation of site Health & Hygiene trends and support site response to issues identified
  • Responsible for leading a small team including an Occupational Health Nurse, Physiotherapist, Occupational Hygienist and on call Doctor;
  • Providing expertise when participating in significant incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Providing guidance and support to facilitate the delivery of health, hygiene and injury management functions.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene or Occupational Therapy, Exercise Physiology or similar health qualifications. 
  • Experience in leading and managing a small workforce team, with relevant leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective influencing relationships and provide strategic oversight over complex operations.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in workers compensation case management
  • Have a strong understanding of the compliance requirements and experience managing audits / assurance activities
  • Recent and relevant experience implementing health and hygiene programmes on an industrial site
