About the position
The Health Promotion Lead will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Deadly Choices (DC) team, activity planning, contract management and reporting, coordination, marketing, and implementation of school and community-based health education, promotion and prevention activities and events that will support local and regional Aboriginal & Islander communities to reduce chronic disease factors, particularly smoking cessation, improving levels of nutrition and increasing physical activity.
Specifically, the Health Promotion Lead will lead the implementation of the Deadly Choices Program, in line with the Regional Action Plan – the Deadly Choices Lifestyle Program; Commonwealth Tackling Indigenous Smoking Funding Agreement and the objectives and plans of TAIHS.
The position will lead a team in the effective delivery of Health Promotion Programs, including the Deadly Choices Program throughout the service area.
Duties include:
- Leadership of Health Promotions program and activities across TAIHS in consolation with IUIH
- Management including contract management and reporting commitments of the Deadly Choices program
- External stakeholder engagement with schools and community organisations in the TAIHS region
- Building internal stakeholder relationships across all TAIHS programs
- Management and development of staff employed in the Deadly Choices program
- Consult and engage with other state Deadly choices organisations and Leads
- Building Health Promotions skills capability within the Deadly Choices team
- Planning and delivery of Health Promotion events
- Being an enthusiastic and positive ambassador for TAIHS, the Deadly Choices program and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- Compliance and reporting on KPIS within the Deadly Choices program contract
- Fostering a positive workplace culture and encouraging participation and commitment
- Prioritising cultural safety in all events and programs
- Promotion of health information and events
- Promoting TAIHS as a smoke-free workplace
To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of:
- Certificate IV or above in a relevant VET qualification e.g. Certificate IV in ATSI Health or equivalent preferred, plus TAE and Health qualifications highly regarded
- Senior work experience in education and/or community preventative health programs or Health Promotions
- Experience in managing a service/program, including the management of staff and program financials
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business
- The ability to work with other health professionals and organisations
- Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Proven ability to enact interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal), critical thinking problem solving skills in the work environment and to support others to problem solve challenging situations and issues
- Proven ability to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate Health Promotion programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander target groups in the target area
- Demonstrated competence in use of system technology and desktop applications, internet, word, spreadsheet and database packages
Required Licenses and Checks
- Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records
- Current Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check)
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) (remove as required if not mandatory)
- COVID-19 Vaccination: It is a condition of employment for this position to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID-19
- Current First Aid and CPR
