Meandu Mine:
BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation's Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.
Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
Job description:
We have an opportunity for a new Health & Safety Advisor to join our Meandu operations on an 8/6 roster. Reporting to the HST Superintendent, the Health & Safety Advisor will coordinate site based occupational Health & Safety activities to ensure the competence and well-being of people, the integrity of equipment and the safe handling of materials.
You will be responsible for ensuring the Health, Safety and Training systems are compliant with legislation and standards and work to continuously improve the safety culture and performance, including making recommendations and implementing improvements to safety and security procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading safety investigations (ICAM), preparing reports and recommendations, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Facilitation of Risk Assessments and mentoring of the risk assessment process to front line and middle management
- Identification of safety issues and problems ensuring corrective action is taken and monitored
- Conducting regular audits, workplace inspections, critical control observations, and field leadership activities and providing guidance and coaching on improving safety practices
- Facilitating Workplace Rehabilitation for injured workers in consultation with medical practitioners
- Assisting with maintaining the site's SHMS including the development of Standard Operating Procedures and processes and ensuring legislative compliance.
- Providing support to site personnel to ensure training needs are maintained to a high standard
- Coordinating occupational hygiene monitoring/ projects/ audits ie Ear fit testing, Respirator fit testing, Vibration/ dust/ noise and welding fumes
- Communicating to employees on project performance as well as broader corporate departments in regard to safety issues as required
Profile description:
About You:
- Minimum of Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety or equivalent
- Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator is essential
- Current light vehicle driver's licence is essential

- Occupational Hygiene experience is preferred
- Competence in computer use with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of the mining industry's regulations and legislation relating to health and safety or relevant heavy industry experience essential
- Good rapport building skills with site-based leaders and workforce
