We are seeking a high caliber Health, Safety and Compliance Manager to lead the Group health and safety function supporting the Company, sites and team to achieve best-in-class health and safety performance. As a Health and Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing
- Work Health and Safety;
- Occupational Hygiene Monitoring;
- Incident and Injury Management;
- Workers Compensation;
- Return to Work; and
- WHS related training; and.
- Legislative compliance and reporting
Your primary objective is to ensure compliance with legislative requirements while aligning with organisational goals to create and maintain a secure workplace.
Location: This role is based full time onsite at our Maroota Quarries. Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm. This is not a work from home role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Review, maintain and enhance the Safety Management System (SMS) to align with company strategies and NSW WHS legislation.
- Assist with the development and then the ongoing maintenance of the online Safety Management System.
- Oversee the implementation and enforcement of WHS company policies, SMS and procedures across the workplace.
- Co-ordinate Health and Hygiene monitoring programs to meet statutory requirements
- Organise the testing of the emergency response plan on an annual basis
- Conduct regular Safety and health inspections and report on results to management team,
- Facilitate WHS training programs and maintain records of training activities.
- Collaborate with operational management for continuous improvement in health and safety
- Facilitate risk assessments such as Job Hazard Analysis
- Ensure legislative changes are implemented and rolled out within timeframes.
- Plan, develop and assist in the running of toolbox talks/training.
- At your manager’s direction/instruction, ensure incidents that need reporting to the NSW Resource Regulator are done so and subsequently liaise with and comply with any associated audits and investigations.
- Ensure compliance reporting in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
2. Injury Management, Workers Compensation and Return to Work:
- Provide claims and case management services to ensure legislative compliance.
- Liaise with medical professionals, insurers, and SafeWork Authorities.
- Train management on legal and practical aspects of injury management.
- Coordinate rehabilitation providers.
- Co-ordinate return to work program.
3. WHS Training Programs:
- Coordinate and deliver the site induction program – keep program up to date
- Conduct internal training programs and establish safety training for all employees.
- Administer and monitor training records, liaise with training organisations.
- Collect data on external training and ensure compliance with WHS-related training requirements.
4. Relationships and Authority:
- Report directly to the Group General Manager and collaborate with all levels of management.
- Coordinate consultants/contractors/visitors and liaise with various departments.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining training records with HR.
- Coordinate the appointment and training of Safety Representatives and Safety Committee/s.
- Maintain a representative presence with industry associations and regulatory bodies.
Job Dimensions:
- Oversight of Company premises/sites.
- Development/enhancement of (but not limited to) Safety Management System, policies, procedures.
- Adherence to all legislative compliance across the sites.
- Contribution to the development of templates and WHS documentation for contractors, auditors, notices etc.
- Spending time out in the quarries on all sites to have safety presence and drive the safety culture.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
- Minimum of Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or higher
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Return to work qualifications
- Good working knowledge of NSW WHS Legislation
- Current drivers licence
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a mine/quarry.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Experience in developing, coordinating and delivering toolbox talks and site emergency response training.
