The Hospital Program Educator role with Carers WA is afull-time 2 year fixed-term position. The position attracts a salary package of $80,000 p.a., plus super and salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave and two wellness days per annum. Package dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About The Role:
The Hospital Program Educator works directly with clinical, allied health and other health care staff in WA metropolitan and some regional hospitals to promote the Prepare to Care Program. The program provides education and resources regarding the carer role, such as the Prepare to Care book, to health staff and carers in the hospital setting. The aim of the program is to empower and assist carers who are supporting a family member or friend during the various stages of inpatient care, and following discharge. The education delivered in hospitals includes information about The Carers Recognition Act 2004; carer identification, recognition, and engagement; carer issues; Carers WA supports, services and referrals; and information pertinent to carers in the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS 2019).
Additionally, the Hospital Program Educator looks for opportunities to advance carer recognition in hospitals and their outreach programs by working in partnership with key stakeholders, and to explore ways to further expand the program.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Ensure resources for carers are provided to hospitals and restocked on a regular basis as required, requiring some manual handling capabilities.
- Provide education to hospital staff regarding the Carers Recognition Act 2004.
- Record data to reflect program activity as required by the funding body.
- Seek out opportunities to promote carer awareness in hospitals through displays, marketing etc.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Understanding of and recent experience working within the Western Australian Hospital System.
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in nursing or allied health (Bachelor or Diploma of Nursing is desirable).
- Experience in delivering group presentations.
- Understanding and empathy of carers, mental health, ageing and disability issues, including Aboriginal, CALD and LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities.
- Ability to build rapport and establish relationships with health professionals.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
- High level of organisation and planning skills.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite
- Current C-A class drivers’ licence.
- Ability to travel regionally (occasionally) as required.
- National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).
