Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing


The respiratory function scientist is an outpatient laboratory-based role to:

·        Provide complex testing of respiratory function in patients with (or suspected of having) respiratory dysfunction, including spirometry and measurement of lung volumes, diffusion capacity, airway reactivity, allergic responses, exercise capacity and responses to hypoxia.

·        Actively participate in patient education, relevant to the speciality, of outpatients.

·        Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and practices relevant to the specialty, including regular revision and development of the laboratory policy & procedures manuals.

·        Calibration and preparation of equipment used in performing respiratory function tests.

·        Maintain equipment and accessories to optimum hygiene standards.

Essential Criteria

Qualification: Science degree in relevant area

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in technical procedures associated with specialised procedures and/or treatments relevant to the speciality.
  2. Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations.
  4. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities.
