Working with a Local Government Council located on the north Shore of Sydney, you will be joining a dynamic and collaborative People & Culture team. This council values community engagement and is known for its commitment to ethical practices and enhancing the overall well-being of its community.
Job Description
Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR & Safety Coordinator for the Council, you will play a crucial role in minimizing exposure to risk and managing the insurance portfolio. Ensure the well-being of all staff, the public, and safeguard the council area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build a proactive risk-aware culture, identifying and managing risks effectively.
- Provide advice to Managers and staff on Work Health and Safety and Enterprise Risk Management.
- Lead the development and reporting of our Council-wide enterprise risk management framework.
- Collaborate on developing cyber risk policies with IT Services.
- Develop, revise, and implement policies and procedures for Work Health and Safety and Risk Management.
- Engage with insurers and Insurance Mutual, managing insurance programs and claims.
- Oversee and report on Work Health and Safety, Workers Compensation, and Return to Work programs.
- Coordinate Worker's Compensation claims, liaise with the insurer, and contribute to return-to-work strategies.
- Act as convener for the Council's Health and Safety Committee, ensuring its effective functioning.
- Carry out inspections of public areas and workplaces, advising on potential loss situations and safety risks.
- Coordinate agendas and minutes for the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.
- Register incoming correspondence into our electronic Corporate Information Management System.
- Ensure compliance with legislative, industrial, and organisational policy requirements and standards.
- Act lawfully, honestly, and exercise diligence in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Prevention of Fraud and Corrupt Conduct Policy.
The Successful Applicant
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant qualifications in HR, Work Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a similar role, including managing insurance portfolios and Worker's Compensation.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of legislative requirements and best practices in risk management.
