The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
As WHS Coordinator you will lead a small team of professionals to influence the strategic direction of ASA’s safety management system, analyse and evaluate incident data gathering, and have oversight of all Health and well-being related ASA policies, programs and initiatives.
Your role will be to:
- Develop, review and implement policies, procedures and practices, strategies, initiatives and projects consistent with relevant WHS legislation and ASA business objectives;
- Develop and implement artefacts and guidance resources, including training materials as required;
- Provide high level WHS advice and legislation interpretation to ASA’s leadership team, and represent ASA at internal and external WHS forums;
- Build productive working relationships with stakeholders such as Defence Groups and Services and Defence industry contractors to influence WHS decisions and ensure alignment with broader ASA objectives;
- Identify and resolve WHS issues and undertake incident investigations as required;
- Develop and maintain assurance frameworks, including the analysis and reporting of safety performance data;
- Engage as required, with the WHS Regulator on behalf of ASA.
About our Team
The ASA is establishing a new WHS Directorate which will comprise a small team of WHS professionals. This directorate will influence and drive change in support of ASA’s management of WHS.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a high-performing candidate to join ASA. Our ideal candidate will bring the following attributes, skills and experience to the role of WHS Coordinator:
- Have demonstrated specialist and professional experience in the development and implementation of strategies for managing WHS matters;
- High level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative, with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives in an ever-changing environment;
- Have in-depth knowledge of WHS legislative frameworks, policies and procedures and will be responsible for the development, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to the Act and other regulations and policies;
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including high-level advice in relation to reports and the development of a range of briefs such as committee, ministerial and executive briefs, and other documents as required;
- Be responsible for coordinating and assuming responsibility for high level safety policy projects and work programs for ASA;
- Ability to build and sustain strong interactive relationships with a range of stakeholders, and to work collaboratively and effectively.
