ABOUT THE ROLE
Purpose
The Impact and Communications Officer collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders to translate and disseminate scientific knowledge to diverse audiences, while also managing the creation and updating of digital communication platforms like websites and social media channels.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualise, develop and review strategies for enhancing awareness of TIA’s capabilities and impacts.
- Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels to maintain a strong and recognizable brand identity.
- Managing TIA’s presence on various social media platforms to increase visibility, engagement, and reach.
- Convey complex scientific concepts and discoveries in a clear, accessible manner to non-expert audiences.
- Working closely with TIA facilities, researchers and scientists to understand their work and identify impacts arising form their research.
- Produce a wide range of corporate communications materials across a variety of internal and external channels, including newsletters, annual impact documents, presentations, and other materials as required.
- Produce a wide variety of engaging content such as blog posts, newsletters, social media updates, infographics etc to communicate scientific information effectively across different platforms and audiences.
- Monitoring the impact of communication efforts and gathering feedback to continually improve the effectiveness of science communication strategies and materials.
Location and organisational relationships
The position will be managed day to day by TIA’s Director of Programs.
The role will be located at TIA’s Brisbane office at the Translational Research Institute in Woolloongabba, Brisbane, Queensland. Flexible work arrangements including working from home are possible and will be subject to TIA policies as they are developed.
Some interstate travel will be required from time to time.
Hours and fraction
The role can be full time or part-time (at least 0.6) depending on the candidate. A standard work week is 38 hours.
Salary and term
This is a fixed term position for 2 years with funding available for an additional 2 years. Base salary will be negotiated based on experience but will be comparable to University HEW8. Superannuation will be at the legislated Superannuation Guarantee rate.
Selection criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in science, communications, public relations or journalism
- Ability to engage both with researchers and lay audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to independently cultivate and maintain important relationships within a diverse stakeholder ecosystem to deliver communications and outreach objectives.
- Highly developed IT skills, including using relevant contemporary office, marketing and Communications tools.
- Experience of identifying, understanding and communicating the outcomes and impacts of scientific research
- Experience with content management systems (e.g. WordPress) and web analytics.
- Demonstrated expertise in media production (print, online, video) tailored for diverse target audiences (e.g. researchers and Government).
- Proven ability to work both a team environment and independently with limited supervision as well as the capacity to organise and prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines and deliver high quality outcomes, and on budget.
- A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies and a commitment to their application.
