About the Role
Based in the heart of Surfers Paradise, this unique inhouse position will collaborate closely with the leadership team and take on the responsibility for a range of general commercial matters with the opportunity to dip their toe into credit law whilst mitigating and flagging legal risk. In addition to preparing and advising on contracts and other legal matters, you will also be heavily involved in business development activities.
You will provide strategic, high quality, solutions-focused legal advice, with the agility to navigate, apply and manage:
- Federal and State regulatory compliance frameworks applicable to MyPayNow and associated entities
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various contractual, commercial and other agreements and legal documents
- Contributing to the development of operational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks including the training of staff on relevant legal issues
- Conducting due diligence and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and risk frameworks
- Ensuring advertising, marketing and promotional activities adhere to regulatory standards and statutory obligations
- Providing competition law and consumer law advice
- Creating and maintaining legal precedents
- Staying up to date on legal and industry developments to support informed decision-making
- Provide timely legal advice on contracts, litigation, governance, compliance, risk management, and intellectual property matters
- Assist with representing the organisation in tribunal and court proceedings
Although the position is advertised as full time, we are open to exploring part time options.
Skills Profile
We are seeking an experienced professional admitted as a solicitor or barrister in QLD with an unrestricted practising certificate. You will have demonstrated technical skills in relevant Federal and State governance and regulatory frameworks and management of legal precedent documents. You will have analytical and conceptual thinking skills and the ability to communicate with influence.
- At least 2-3 years post admission experience in a relevant field within any top tier or recognised mid-tier Australian practice, or in-house legal position.
- Experience in commercial law and commercial contracts with the aptitude to provide commercial and pragmatic legal advice
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and deliver quality outcomes in accordance with agreed timeframes and within cost
- Significant experience working independently, autonomously and proactively to identify and resolve complex issues
- Strong commercial acumen with a practical and proactive approach
- A high standard of interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to handle confrontations with kindness and empathy
- Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines and put the hours in to get the job done (within reason)
- An open-minded attitude and a light-hearted sense of humour
- An interest or experience in Credit Law is desirable
Along with the above skillset, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, independent and creative lawyer specialising in business advisory, commercial law and contracts (across various disciplines including business contracts, consumer agreements, lending and others).
