Independent Scientific Director position available on the Southern Rocklobster Limited Board
Southern Rocklobster Limited (SRL) is seeking to appoint a new Independent Scientific Director to its Board.
SRL is the research arm of the Southern rock lobster commercial fishing sectors in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. SRL is responsible for strategic research planning, governance and the administration of the compulsory research levy in partnership with the Fisheries Research and
Development Corporation (Cwth).
SRL is currently seeking to recruit a new volunteer Independent Scientific Board member.
The appointment is for a three-year term which can be extended for a further term. The Board comprises eight representative directors from SRL’s member organisations as well as two independent members (the Chairperson and the Scientific Director), ensuring the necessary mix of industry and governance skills.
Successful candidates will have capabilities in marine biology and fisheries management, strategic thinking, not - for profit governance and understanding of fiduciary duty obligations. We are seeking independent thinkers who express their views respectfully and confidently, offering a constructive
contribution to Board deliberations and decision-making. Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course is preferred but not essential.
The SRL Board meets 4 times a year usually virtually and face to face. All travel and associated reasonable expenses will be paid for by the Company. The Independent Scientific Director also serves on the Research, Development & Extension Sub-Committee, which meets on an as-required
basis and comprises the State fishery managers, scientists and industry representatives. This is a non-remunerated position.
