Overview:
The Director Scientific Services is responsible for leading and directing the strategic planning, and management of the Scientific Services Branch, incorporating the Chemical Hazards and Controlled Substances Licensing Sections.
The role provides high level leadership and expert professional consultancy on controlled substances and prohibited substances regulation; health risk assessment and environmental contamination affecting health.
The Director, Scientific Services drives policy development and the management and evaluation of legislative responsibilities under the relevant sections of the Controlled Substances Act, 1984 to enable continual improvement and ensure the South Australian Government meets its responsibilities to protect the community. The role will also provide expert specialist consultancy, assistance and recommendations to the Minister and DHW Executive in the formulation of legislation, and standards and represent the Agency on National, State, Local Government and inter agency committees, forums and working parties.
The position will be responsible for the management of a highly qualified team to tackle complex issues related to chemical and environmental hazards to protect the health of South Australians.
Working as a key member of the Health Protection and Regulation Directorate leadership team, the position will focus on designing collaborative strategies both locally and nationally to deliver high-quality regulatory systems in a dynamic and changing environment.
Applicants should have a high degree of knowledge and experience in managing multidisciplinary scientific or public health teams in government, undertaking or overseeing public health risk assessments and a strong understanding of regulation and compliance.

Special Conditions
- Appropriate degree qualifications in public or environmental health or a related science discipline.
- Post graduate qualifications, including recognised technical or advanced training, in management, science, public health or related discipline.
