CheckUP is seeking an Indigenous Eye Health Manager to coordinate and oversee programs and services aimed at improving Eye Health outcomes within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.  This role involves advocating for and implementing strategies to address the unique Eye Health challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and peoples.  
The position offers

ABOUT THE POSITION

To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Indigenous Australians.The primary purpose of the  Indigenous Eye Health Manager position is to:Operationalise and implement business activities, projects, and innovations relevant to the operational plans of the organisation. Co-ordinate and integrate activities, projects, teams, systems, and processes across the organisation to maximise organisational productivity. Monitor, evaluate and complete all business activities to the standards required and to ensure continual improvement, learnings and knowledge are generated and embedded into the ongoing sustainability of the organisation 

The successful applicant will bring to the role:

  1. Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity towards the social, economic, and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health.
  2. Demonstrate ability to work effectively across mainstream and ATSICCHO sectors to achieve improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health services using population health and needs assessment approach.
  4. Experience in community engagement and building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and strong leadership and organisational skills to manage and coordinate Indigenous Eye Health programs and services are desirable. 
  5. This role can be performed at any of our office locations of Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns, dependent on the preferred candidates location

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans, implements, co-ordinates and evaluates CheckUP’s business activities consistent with business plans, business systems and processes and contracts including the development of work or project plans, identification of risk, regular monitoring and reporting of project or business activity outcomes and progress against business plans. In particular, the Indigenous Eye Health Manager will work in close collaboration with the CheckUP General Managers; EESS Manager, Regional Coordinators, key stakeholders, and Indigenous Eye Health Advisory Forum to achieve the following activity:

o Maintain/expand (as necessary) an Advisory Forum.

o Develop an activity work plan in consultation with the Advisory Forum 

o Assess need for improved coordination of Indigenous Eye Health activities, taking into consideration:

▪ Access to services – services currently being provided and what is required to meet population needs.

▪ How patients’ access services.

▪ Suitability of existing patient pathways and structures to support both patients and health professionals 

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in coordinating and managing health programs and services, preferably in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health context.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, health professionals, and government and non-government agencies.
  • Understanding of Eye Health issues and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective health promotion strategies and initiatives to improve Eye Health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills to manage and coordinate Eye health programs and services.
  • Ability to collect, analyse, and report on data to inform program planning and evaluation.
  • Commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and reducing health disparities.
