About Jumbunna

Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research (Jumbunna) at UTS assists the University to contribute effectively to Australia's educational and social development by making UTS staff and students aware of Indigenous Australian cultures and associated issues. It is committed to improving the quality of teaching and research at UTS by facilitating active links with the Indigenous community, higher education institutions, and other professions with particular emphasis on Australia's growth as a multi-cultural nation.

About the role

The Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer is responsible for the planning, coordination and participation in activities and Events to promote study opportunities at UTS. The role is pivotal in the coordination of the Galuwa programs, a key schools engagement experience. The position is required to engage with local, regional and remote schools as well as attend careers markets, job fairs and community related events. 

Within the scope of this position performs of a range of administrative tasks as directed by the Indigenous Outreach and Events Team Leader, who in turn reports to the Indigenous Outreach Manager. 

About You

As the Indigenous Outreach and Events Officer, you will:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of promotional campaigns to attract increased numbers of Indigenous student enrolments.
  • Assist with the promotion of Indigenous cultural activities and dates to raise awareness within the University, Indigenous and broader community, including the development of a calendar of identified key dates.
  • Assist with developing and designing marketing and promotional materials to market programs to engage an Indigenous audience.  
  • Developing relationships and knowledge of individual faculty course offerings to be able to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders to optimise resources and improve outcomes.
  • Work with the Jumbunna Pathways and Outreach Coordinate the development of evaluation strategies that aligns with the UTS strategic objectives related to Indigenous outcomes.

With examples from your previous work experience, please outline, in a separate document, how you meet the following five selection criteria points below:

  • Ability to work as a team member and to contribute professionally to the strategic objectives of Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research (JIIER) and the strategic directions of the University of Technology Sydney.
  • Ability to represent JIIER at public forums and functions (eg. careers markets).
  • Demonstrated project management skills (eg aspiration raising events, lectures, seminars and awards events).
  • Experience in the coordination and management of events in an Indigenous setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specific issues relating to the coordination of events in an Indigenous setting.

Role Eligibility

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $80,044 to $91,570  pa (HEW 5)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
