About the roleThe
Indigenous Student Education Officer is based in the and builds strong purposeful relationships with and supports the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and community.They will support Vocational Education portfolios and will do this by building strong purposeful links with students and communities by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. This role supports the retention, progression and successful completion of studies undertaken by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
About YouWe are seeking someone who has the experience and passion to support and connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Vocational Education students and help to build engagement with their studies. You will also support students by connecting them with academic supports, housing and financial supports, social and cultural activities, global opportunities and networks. We are after someone who can commit to the role for the longer term and is happy to work on campus.See video by Eleanor Franks about this roleTo be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:Knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an understanding of community needs, particularly the educational and personal support needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport with staff, students and the community and a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.Proven ability to access, to tailor and deliver information effectively to a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.Proven strong organisational skills; sound analytical and problem solving skills, and a capacity to improve administration processes to improve efficiency.– VEDesirable: A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.
