The Role
This role is responsible for supporting the management of Indirect Tax risk through compliance and advice in ensuring that Insignia Financial Ltd satisfies its tax obligations and reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders. This role covers all Indirect Tax matters related to GST, stamp duty, Payroll Tax, and other applicable Indirect Taxes. This ensures the integrity of the Indirect Tax information of all product entities to provide confidence and trust to all applicable clients, members and shareholders
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of the Insignia Financial’s Indirect Tax risk in accordance with the Tax Governance Framework, policies, and procedures.
- Support Indirect Tax compliance performed by the Funds Tax and Corporate Tax teams.
- Provide strategic Indirect Tax advice to support the business objectives.
- Shared responsibility for the Indirect Tax control environment
- Provide leadership to the team and help ensure the right focus on the right activities and priorities.
- Support the identification, development and implementation of process improvement and efficiency of Indirect Tax processes
- Assist in advising management of new or proposed legislation, regulations or rulings for GST, stamp duty and Payroll Tax and co-ordinate training within the tax team and other areas of the Group
- Support the Management of relationships with external tax advisers, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Support ATO stakeholder management
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting/law
- Strong understanding of tax laws
- CA/CPA/TIA qualification
- Strong understanding of the financial services industry and products preferred but not essential
- Experience in a similar role in a large corporate and/or chartered firm
- Practical experience of conducting end-to-end reviews of systems and processes for GST including identifying and assessing the design and operational effectiveness of controls and data testing Experience in managing ATO and State Revenue authority engagement including for reviews and audits
- An understanding of accounting standards and regulations preferred but not essential.
- Strong ability to plan, co-ordinate and execute activity across a team
- Strong ability to delegate and empower staff while providing adequate support
- Strong knowledge of computer based financial systems and PC based applications especially Microsoft Excel and Word
