Position: Infrastructure and Operations Lead (HPC & Storage Infrastructure)- Permanent Government Role

Talent International is working exclusively in partnership with a large government organization to assist in sourcing an experienced Infrastructure and Operations Lead. This is a pivotal role where the successful candidate will harness high-performance computing (HPC) solutions to advance scientific research and address environmental challenges.

About the role:

The Infrastructure and Operations Lead provides technical leadership to a small team of IT experts supporting the department's high performance computing facility (Science Data and Compute - SDC).

This role will:

  • Lead a small team to design, implement and manage storage, computer and network infrastructure of the Science Data Compute facility to provide a robust system for the department's scientists and collaborators.
  • Apply expertise to analyse the requirements of business stakeholders across a range of scientific disciplines and provide specialist advice on new technologies to be incorporated into the system architecture and solution design.
  • Manage operations and oversee day to day administration by the support team of the SDC hardware, OS, network fabrics, platform software, tape management and data centre related activities, while prioritising operations stability.
  • Lead development and implementation of policies and processes, business continuity and disaster recovery planning with support from the team and technical consultant.

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in similar roles managing HPC and storage infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and administrating Linux-based HPC environments - preferably for science applications, including configuration of job schedulers, e.g., Slurm/PBS, and experience with distributed computing (MPI) will be considered favourably.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and administrating petabyte scale storage solutions, for example parallel filesystems (e.g. lustre) and/or hierarchical storage management such as Data Management Facility (DMF) using tape libraries.
  • Proficient programming skills, e.g., in Python, bash, and C/C++
  • Demonstrated leadership skills at strategic and operational levels including the ability to effectively support/communicate with staff from diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills to design and implement innovative solutions for technical problems.
