Description

About the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section)

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the world's largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations. In Queensland, the RFDS employs more than 500 people ranging from pilots, doctors, nurses, engineers, allied health professionals, and a variety of administration and support services roles.

Growth has always been an important part of the RFDS story in Queensland. As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2028, it’s more important than ever. With a number of initiatives on the horizon, and projects in the pipeline, now is the time to join the RFDS (Queensland Section) and be part of our Towards 100 Strategy!

About the role:

Calling all creative trailblazers! This is a brand-new, never before advertised opportunity to join our award-winning Fundraising and Philanthropy team in an innovation capacity. This is not your typical desk job! You’ll be working on game-changing fundraising projects that will enable the RFDS in Queensland to provide better health access and outcomes for people in the bush.

With one of RFDS (Queensland Sections)’s five strategic pillars dedicated to growth in innovation, there will be no shortage of opportunities for you to flex your creativity, facilitation, and project management muscles.

You will be responsible for facilitating, tracking and delivering on the Fundraising and Philanthropy innovation strategy in collaboration with our team’s Innovation Champions. You’ll be using phrases like “jobs to be done” and “riskiest hypothesis” while leveraging our best practice innovation process. Amongst other things, you’ll be coordinating interviews with supporters to understand their pain points and needs. You’ll be hands-on in running ideation workshops with internal and external stakeholders. You’ll provide advice and assist with de-risking ideas through experimentation, and you’ll be making sure that everyone knows where we’ve succeeded and where we’ve failed.

To be successful in this role, you must have excellent stakeholder engagement (because relationships are important!) and project management (because getting things done is important!) skills. You’ll be coming into a warm, caring and supportive culture that we’ve been proud to create and maintain, so you’ll also need to positively contribute to that.

The Innovation Lead is a permanent, full-time role, located at our Brisbane Corporate Office.

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:

  • Monitoring and ensuring the progression of all innovation missions (focus areas) within the Fundraising & Philanthropy innovation strategy
  • Nurturing a group of keen Innovation Champions, involving them in all stages of the innovation process to help move initiatives forward
  • Undertaking research with supporters and stakeholders to uncover opportunities for innovation
  • Framing innovation challenges for ideation and developing initiatives to foster idea generation across the team
  • Preparing and facilitating ideation and shortlisting workshops in collaboration with Innovation Champions
  • Co-ordinating and reviewing informally generated (bottom up) ideas and providing feedback on these ideas
  • Prioritising and reviewing ideas, helping to decide on which ones to progress
  • Leading experimentation efforts using Lean Start Up methodologies
  • Capturing and maintaining documentation of innovation successes and learnings to promote internally and externally to inform future innovation efforts
  • Tracking budgets and expenditure, providing detailed reporting on fundraising innovation activities against budget and KPIs
  • Managing and building relationships with cross-functional leaders, key agencies and stakeholders to position the Fundraising Innovation program to maximise growth
To be successful in this role you will meet the following criteria:
  • Previous experience in a similar role (e.g. Innovation Co-ordinator, Innovation Manager, Innovation Consultant) where you have demonstrated knowledge of innovation processes and methodologies (Desirable)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Innovation, Business, Marketing or Psychology (Desirable)
  • Previous fundraising or marketing experience (Desirable)
  • Experience facilitating group workshops with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, experience with specific innovation management software is a bonus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with people and build strong working relationships with internal & external stakeholders
Why join the RFDS (Queensland Section)?
  • Competitive Salary + Super
  • Salary packaging of $18,500; increasing your take home pay
  • Opportunity to be a part of the iconic RFDS team!
  • Be an integral team member by supporting those who make a real impact to healthcare in Queensland
  • Work with a wonderful team of people who are passionate about our purpose and proud of their contribution

  • Employee Assistance Program Advice for staff and their families (support, nutrition & financial)
