Lend A Friend is a small NDIS Provider in Adelaide, and our team have been providing tailored services to our NDIS Members, guided by their goals and dreams, since 2016. We are now working with our Members to expand our team, and find empathetic, accountable and friendly Helpers who can join us in providing quality supports to our Members. What The Role Could Involve:
Each of our Members have different disabilities, needs, personalities and requirements. Over the last 12 months, these are the types of things our team has done, and what you might need to do too depending on who you are helping:
- Helping people with Mental Health Disabilities, like schizophrenia and processing disorders, manage their Doctor and Hospital appointments, assisting with daily life to-do lists, keeping their environment clean and safe, monitoring their mental health
- Mentoring disengaged youths on the spectrum, helping them explore hobbies and potential employment opportunities, assisting with transportation and social skills in the community
- Taking case notes, reporting back to Support Coordinators and Care Managers about progress
- Helping non-verbal people with Autism build up their life and living skills, including meal preparation, building up communication skills like practicing reading, following fitness and exercise routines
- Helping people with Physical Disabilities with in home support, including washing, cleaning, organising the home, sometimes showering assistance
- Managing challenging behaviours, like clients yelling, becoming overwhelmed and crying, putting themselves in danger like crossing roads without looking
In summary, you will need to work closely with families and their Allied Health team, to assist them with achieving their NDIS goals, and providing them a better quality of life
Requirements: (we can assist you with getting the right clearances)
- Unrestricted Drivers licence and reliable insured vehicle
- Provide First Aid Certificate
- NDIS Screening Check
- Working With Children Clearance
- Right to work in Australia, and live in Adelaide
- Don't have an injury which would prevent you from being able to manually assist Members
Ideal Candidates:
A good fit for our NDIS Members and this team would be someone who:
- Can follow instructions well, and is a good listener
- Is calm and patient, able to keep their cool when tough situations arise
- Is respectful, honest, likable and understanding
- Has warmth, empathy and take a cooperative approach to things
- Has knowledge and experience working with people with varying disabilities, like Intellectual disabilities, Mental health Disorders, Physical disabilities or Psychosocial Disabilities
- Knows about or is willing to learn about Autism, Down Syndrome, Schizophrenia, processing disorders, and other types of disabilities
