RCH is a cornerstone member of the Melbourne Children's Campus, partnering with Murdoch Children's Research Institute, The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics and The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.

RCH has cared for the children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since it was founded in 1870. A full range of paediatric and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

About the Role:

This is a Casual position within the Central Sterilising Service Department (CSSD) department. The CSSD provides a complete reprocessing and sterilising service for all reusable instruments and medical devices used within The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH).

As an Instrument Technician in CSSD you will provide an efficient and high-quality service across all stages of reprocessing services for patient care equipment and surgical instruments at the RCH.

What You'll Achieve:

  • You will perform all CSSD daily activities and duties, ensuring a timely delivery of services and products, while ensuring that all tasks are performed according to documented instructions and in accordance with current Australian Standards
  • You will monitor the operation of all reprocessing equipment and reporting any failures of these according to through the internal reporting system for faults and repairs ensuring safety of all staff is maintained
  • You will assist in the orientation of new staff members within CSSD to allow for appropriate and timely training of all new and trainee staff

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Have completed a Certificate III in Health - Sterilising Practice for Technicians
  • Bring proven experience in Clinical Sterilisation services, ideally within a hospital setting
  • Have exceptional communication skills and can work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and a good working knowledge of AS/NZS 4187:2014
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques of processing reusable medical devices
