About the role
The Internal Investigations Manager is responsible for executing responsibilities under WorkSafe’s Managing Workplace Behaviours and Conduct (MWBC) Policy and Fraud and Corruption Control Policy and Guidelines.
The role acts as the primary point of contact for RightCall complaint referrals for concerns related to employee misconduct by WorkSafe employees/contractors from internal and external sources in line with the MWBC Policy or other related policies, including the Fraud and Corruption Control Policy and Guidelines.
The role also conducts as required triage and preliminary assessments for complaints related to employee misconduct by WorkSafe employees and /contractors from internal and external sources in line with the MWBC Policy or other related WorkSafe policies.
Key accountabilities
- Lead and manage WorkSafe’s internal investigation function in the assessment, triage and where necessary formal investigation of concerns and complaints of potential serious breaches of WorkSafe’s policies, procedures and Code of Conduct in accordance with the applicable WorkSafe conduct policy.
- Report regularly to the Complaint Resolution Committee (CRC), Executive Leadership Team and any other necessary forum in accordance with the CRC Charter, which involves scheduling monthly meetings, preparing the agenda and minutes, and ensuring action items are followed up.
- Prepare reporting and analysis of assessment and investigation data, including outcomes and learnings, for communication to Executive Management and other business areas as required.
- Act as the Business Contract Manager for the outsourced internal investigations and Independent Reporting Hotline “RightCall” in accordance with WorkSafe’s Procurement Policies and Procedures.
- Act as a contact for referring matters in accordance with WorkSafe’s Fraud & Corruption Control Policy and Guideline and reporting obligations therein.
- Manage, develop, and continuously seek to improve internal investigation work practices including how investigations are considered, evaluated and conducted.

About you
You have demonstrated experience in an investigation role, including conduct of interviews, document examination and report writing. Your organisation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills are highly developed. You are adaptable to change, with the ability to remain resilient in adverse situations.
More specifically you will have:
- Experience in conducting and managing complex investigations of serious misconduct, including but not limited to Code of Conduct breaches, conflicts of interest, fraud and corruption
- Expert level in conducting investigative interviews, document analysis, evidence matrices and report writing. Demonstrated experience and skill in the interpretation of organisational policies, procedures and legislation concerning matters of misconduct and criminal conduct
- Ability to exercise judgement under pressure, to assess a situation objectively with the ability to identify key issues and resolve problems
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to stand alone and give independent advice without fear or favour
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills including strong influencing skills
- Highly analytic and a strategic intellect
Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualifications including any or all of the following:
- Certificate III Investigations [minimum requirement]
- Diploma / Certificate IV of Government Investigation
- Licenced investigator/private enquiry agent Victoria
Desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in an associated field such as Criminology, Law/Workplace Relations and/or Accounting
- Membership of a professional development and governance body including either or both of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and/or the Australian Institute of Professional Investigators
