This is a Pool process with permanent and/or fixed term, full time opportunities.

People with a decision-making disability are vulnerable to abuse and neglect. Would you like to work in a role which enables you to protect some of these vulnerable adults? If you are interested in promoting the best interests of this group, this may be the position for you.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Investigator Advocate you will work in an area of law that seeks to protect vulnerable adults with decision-making disabilities from possible financial or personal abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Your role will involve investigating applications for guardianship and administration – including exploring allegations of abuse and neglect, and gathering information to assist in determining if a person needs someone to be appointed to make their decisions.

You will also have a role in investigating referrals to the Public Advocate that a member of the community is at risk of exploitation due to a possible decision-making disability. This will involve gathering information from family and support services to identify if a person is at risk, and what interventions may be necessary to ensure their well-being.

You will be required to write reports and provide verbal advocacy on behalf of persons at hearings of the State Administrative Tribunal with a focus on promoting the person’s best interests while ensuring any intervention is the least restrictive to the person’s rights.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for people who:

  • have the capacity to manage a diverse caseload
  • have an ability to analyse information from varying sources and where parties may have conflicting views and interests
  • present analysis in concise written reports which include recommendations about the need for guardianship and/or administration
  • are able to present verbal advocacy for the best interests of people with a decision-making disability even where some parties disagree with your recommendations.

Our team includes people with diverse professional backgrounds including people with experience in financial services, social work, aged care and the disability sector.  The role of an Investigator Advocate can provide an opportunity to apply your skills in a different environment and under a different legislative framework.
