About the Club

Bunbury Swimming Club is based at the South West Sports Centre, the largest indoor aquatics venue in the South West Region of Western Australia, two hours south of Perth. The venue boasts a heated indoor 10 lane competition pool, grandstand and fully-equipped gymnasium.

Bunbury Swimming Club (BSC) is over sixty-years old and is one of the largest regional swimming clubs in Western Australia, with a proud swimming tradition. Our squads range from Junior Development, State and National Performance.

Bunbury Swimming Club is looking for a Junior Coaching Coordinator to work with our Head Coach (Performance) to grow and develop our Junior Swimming ranks.

We offer coaches and swimmers a culture of personal development and improvement, helping them to become the best they can be. BSC aims to provide a professional, caring environment to foster individual goals, while impressing the importance of resilience, commitment, hard work and enjoyment.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Junior Coaching Coordinator who is passionate about competitive swimming, working with children and coaching. The successful applicant will be tasked with coaching one of the club’s junior squads (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), as well as coordinating and working with its other junior squad coaches, utilising your experience and knowledge of swimming and coaching best practice to deliver an effective Junior Coaching program. You will be required to implement a program and coordinate with the club’s Junior Development coaches to motivate and develop swimmers to meet state-level competition targets and achieve competitive success at this level. The role also entails assisting the management committee with recruiting and retaining junior swimmers from the catchment area of the South West Sports Centre.

The successful person will embrace positive ideals and values promoting an environment in which swimmers develop self-esteem, self-confidence, discipline, effective habits and motivation to succeed.

Your duties:

  • Plan, deliver and in consultation with the other Junior coaches, manage the junior development squad program (Bronze, Silver and Gold Squads).
  • With the Head Coach (Performance), help to set the club target meet schedule (open water and pool) and attend Junior meets and club time trials in consultation with the Head Coach (Performance) and Management Committee.
  • Work with the Management Committee to grow its swimming membership base by attracting and retaining junior swimmers from the South West Sports Centre catchment zone.
  • Work collaboratively with and communicate effectively with other coaches, parents and the management committee and motivate swimmers to achieve swimming goals and attain successful competitive results at club, regional, and state level competition.
  • Work with swimmers and coaches and the club’s management committee to promote, develop and grow the club.
  • Mentor other coaches in their own coaching development and assist the Head Coach (Performance) to facilitate regular coaching meetings.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities (SCTA, South West Region Development Program, Swimming WA).

About You

Qualifications and experience at the time of appointment:

  • Desirable - Current SCTA Development (previously Bronze) qualification. The club will assist suitable applicant to achieve this coaching licence. 
  • Desirable - Experience coaching swimming at a competitive level (preferred) or teaching swimming but with an interest in developing into a competitive swimming coach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships with other coaches, parents, technical officials, swimmers and the management committee.
  • Ability to secure a Working with Children Card in WA
  • Provide contact details of 2 professional referees who can confirm experience and qualifications and provide good character references.
  • Ability to coach on pool deck during all junior squad session times.
  • All applicants must have current working rights for Australia.
