About the Role:

As the Junior Developer for the Physical Markets Trading team, you will support the development of our utility sized battery storage trading software using Python and SQL, as well as some improvements to existing Microsoft based applications. You will work with the Physical Markets Traders to develop the tools used by the team to increase efficiency and improve assisted bidding systems to help AGL make faster and optimised decisions in its complex portfolio.

The Physical Market Trading team manage the wholesale electricity and gas procurement costs by exercising our power generation assets (8000MW) in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and our gas contracts.

This role is a 12 month fixed term contract.

What you'll be doing:

• Help to develop platforms to assist decision making for Physical Markets traders
• Ensure that development follows good practices and that software is scalable, and easy to maintain
• Support algorithm development at AGL, particularly focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems
• Working closely with our industry experts to help bring these developments to reality
• Work closely with Traders within Physical Markets to ensure that enhancements to trading software will be compliant with National Electrical Rules within the NEM
• Ensure that the implemented systems align with the safe operating envelope of physical assets

About You:

You will ideally be an early career developer with strong coding skills and experience working around operational systems, ideally in electricity and / or gas. Your willingness to learn our development processes and your comfort working with complexity will set you up for success.

What you'll bring to the table:

• Tertiary training in Computer Science or a relevant discipline
• Formal training in Python and SQL
• The ability to work on projects independently (but with the access to market expertise)
• Experience with NEM or Gas markets is highly preferred, but experience within a large industrial or commodities trading organisations will be sufficient
• Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
