  • Assist with obtaining initial legal advice to all divisions of Council, in particular in relation to governance and compliance legislation.
  • Provide support for the processing of public interest disclosures and code of conduct complaints.
  • Prepare Council reports, submissions, briefing papers, policies, and correspondence on governance matters.
  • Coordinate and support council meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and follow-up on action items.

For a full list of the Key Accountabilities of the role, please refer to the Position Description.

About You:

  • A degree in Business Administration, Management, Law or related field/s.
  • Previous demonstrated experience in a governance role within a Local Government organisation or similar public sector environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards governing Local Government operations in New South Wales.
  • Expertise in insurance claims management will be highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to interpret and apply complex legal and policy frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight deadlines.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs and workshops on governance-related topics would be advantageous.

Benefits of working for Kempsey Shire Council:

As the successful candidate, you’ll enjoy:

  • A permanent, full-time position.
  • 35 hour work week with monthly RDO’s.
  • Weekly salary of $1,666.61 to $1,875.79 (plus 11% superannuation).
  • A working environment focussed on wellbeing, including flexible work arrangements, rostered days off, EAP access, social club, and health and wellbeing programs.
