Starfish Early Learning Centre is a well-established organisation of 15 years, with several services across Melbourne. We educate and care for children from 6 weeks through to Kindergarten within our communities. Our service employs people who are committed to Early Childhood Education, have a genuine love for children and who are continually reflecting, learning, and dedicated to continuous improvement.

We have legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety, which we follow rigorously.
About the position:
Starfish Essendon is our newest service, anticipated to open 29th April 2024. We have an open day organised for Saturday 23rd March 2024.
This brand new building is a 3 storey premium facility, purpose built to accommodate children from 6 weeks through to Kindergarten. The 7 spacious rooms are light filled, and lead onto large outdoor spaces with the train line next door (the children will adore waving to the trains as they pass during the day).
We are seeking a full time (Mon-Fri 9.00-5.30) Early Childhood Teacher to join our Starfish ELC community, working and researching alongside our 3 and 4yo Kindergarten children. This position officially begins when we open on (hopefully) 29th April 2024, however would like the successful candidate to attend our open day in March, and begin induction with Starfish a week or two earlier than when we open.

The successful candidate will:
- Hold an Early Childhood Teaching degree or equivalent, as per regulations and have a current VIT registration. (Please note, only candidates who have completed their qualifications and have their VIT, or will have their VIT this year will be considered)
- Ideally be an experienced Early Childhood Teacher with demonstrated Exceeding Quality practice.
- Possibly be a recent graduate with some hands on experience, keen to get into a supportive service where you can blossom.
- Be looking for a long term professional opportunity within a supportive but challenging environment.
- Be able demonstrate your skills/experience/intellectual curiosity through your documentation.
- Be excited by the children's learning, their peer's learning and their own learning.
- Be willing to give and receive feedback from peers, leaders, families and children, and critically reflect on their own practice, while assisting those around them to reflect on their practice.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Be willing to challenge themselves and work outside their comfort zone to grow and learn.
- Be able to work 9-5:30, from Monday to Friday, attend out of hours meetings and workshops and be keen to participate in professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrate sound working knowledge and understanding of the VEYLDF and NQF.
- Have a current First Aid, anaphylaxis and asthma certificate
- Demonstrate a commitment to community involvement and cultural competence.
- Demonstrate a commitment to child safety and wellbeing
