About the role
An opportunity has become available for a Full Time Grade 2 Medical Scientist position to take on a leadership role within the Serology/Immunology department at our Adelaide Airport Laboratory.
Your role will report into the Microbiology Head of Department and assist in supervising the efficient, cost effective and safe operation of Serology/Immunology diagnostic testing. This includes supervision of staff, managing work processes, maintaining quality and occupational health and safety requirements. The successful applicant will lead by example to promote a healthy and positive culture both within the department and with all other stakeholders internal and external of the business. Duties will include ALL rotating rosters, including on call (if required), weekends & public holidays depending on the service needs of the department as directed by the Head of Department.
Key duties of the role will include:
- Ensure the department meets all required KPI’s to deliver a timely, quality pathology service.
- Assist with training and assessment of workplace competencies as needed and encourage teamwork.
- Providing direction to scientists and technical staff within the department
- Assisting with Stock Control
- Participate in monthly KPI and Quality Assurance Programs including interpretation and review of QC and QA performance
- Implement initiatives in consultation with the Head of Department to provide continuous improvements for the laboratory.
- Participate in laboratory work rosters including day, evening and night shifts including weekends and public holidays.
- Perform diagnostic laboratory tests, including validation and reporting
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment.
- Adhere to and maintain standard operating procedures documented in laboratory manuals as required by the Quality System Standard ISO/IEC 15189.
- Participate in departmental continuing education program/s.
- Answering phone queries from referring practitioners as required
- Liaising with Supervising Pathologists as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent acceptable for membership with; Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS).
- Minimum 5 years Serology and/or Immunology experience in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
- Good communication and customer service skills are essential.
- Relevant experience working in an Immunology/Serology Laboratory including ELISA, EIA and hepatitis testing will be beneficial for this role.
- Experience with use of various microbiology/serology laboratory automation systems will be highly considered
- High attention to detail and experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multitask and successfully work as part of a team.
- Exceptional communication, time management & organisational skills.
